To All ‪#‎Realtors‬:BE ON THE ALERT, cautious and observant! Yesterday, in the late afternoon I pulled up to a home that is listed for sale and states vacant ho...me in the MLS. I was alone in my car and noticed the outside door was open. I then noticed a man, perhaps in his 20's with red hair, no shirt or shoes going in and out.
I stayed in my car, rolled down the window and yelled out to him, what are you doing? He approached my car and told me he bought the home. I could tell by just looking at him, he was on drugs. I replied to him that the home was not sold, rolled up my window and dialed 911. He walked back to the property where my view was blocked. The dispatcher asked me for full description and told me help on the way. The ‪#‎TavaresPolice‬ Department arrived within 5 minutes. I got out of my car and pointed to the direction of suspect.
With weapons drawn they approached area and handcuffed suspect within moments. There were 4 #TavaresPolice officers and all recognized this individual from prior arrests. They also told me he has a very serious drug problem. After the chills subsided, I began to fully realize what our law enforcement deals with daily. Harris Chain of Lakes/Dora Canal/Lake Dora Information

Set amongst the quaint towns of Eustis, Mount Dora, Leesburg, and Tavares is the Harris Chain of Lakes. This chain is a part of the Oklawaha River Basin and includes Lake Eustis (7,806 acres), Lake Harris (15,087 acres), Little Lake Harris (3,359 acres), Lake Dora (4,475 acres), Lake Beauclair (1,140 acres), Lake Griffin (9,327 acres), Lake Yale (4,013 acres) and Lake Carlton (376 acres).
These are some of the largest lakes in the state, and as such provide a multitude of recreation options for Floridians. Sailors, boaters, and waterskiers are common sights on all of these lakes, but the main attraction on the Harris chain is the bass fishing. Countless tournaments have been hosted on this chain, attracted to the prize-winning bass which have put these lakes in the national spotlight.
The popularity of the area and its charming towns have brought many tourists and permanent settlers to the area in recent years. The population growth on and around the lakefronts has led to a strong effort to preserve the quality of the area's lakes. The Harris Chain of Lakes Restoration Council and the Lake County Water Authority are two organizations devoted to the upkeep of the Harris Chain's beautiful waters to be enjoyed for generations to come. #Mount-Dora Photo's-Past and Present

The large, beautiful lake upon which the City grew is named for Ms. Dora Ann Drawdy (1819-1885), who homesteaded in the mid-1800s and befriended federal surveyors with her warm hospitality. In 1846, the surveyors named Lake Dora for her, and years later, in 1883, the small but growing town was named for the lake. Three years later, the town’s name was officially changed to Mount Dora to reflect the fact that the settlement rests upon a plateau 184 feet above sea level – an unusual feature in Florida. A popular winter retreat for hunters, fishermen and boaters, The Alexander House opened in 1883 – a two-story hotel with 10 rooms. It was renamed Lakeside Inn and remains in operation today. Visitors included Presidents Coolidge and Eisenhower, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford. In 1910, the town was granted a charter with Capt. John Philip Donnelly as its first Mayor. With 371 residents, Mount Dora boasted two general stores, a hardware store, a drugstore, two churches and a Townhall. The Mount Dora Voice became the town’s first newspaper. The early 1920s marked a significant boom in residential growth and business development, and Mount Dora began the transformation from a country town into a city. The town of Mount Dora was eventually incorporated into a city in 1953 and has experienced growth since that time. The City retains the flavor of a small town with many historic buildings, its large canopy oak trees and is known for its variety of antique and specialty shops and numerous special events throughout the year.
